While we are still a young organization, several initial goals of the Board of Directors have been met.
1. An educational website was established, and pages that provide guidance for the design of a laboratory and implementation of starch gain analyses were created. The website is made freely available to all interested researchers.
2. Grant funds from the National Science Foundation (Grant NSF ARC-1058103) were secured, and monies were obtained for the purchase of specialized equipment necessary for the preparation of archaeobotanical samples.
3. The first international, online conference in the field was undertaken in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology, and a standardized nomenclature was created for the field of starch analysis. This International Code for Starch Nomenclature is made freely available to all interested researchers via our website.
